Why FG Must Establish Fire Service at Anambra State Now – Hon. Okwudiri Christopher

The member representing Orumba North and Orumba South federal constituency Anambra, said establishing a Federal Fire Service in Anambra State or it environ is a must so as curb the menace of fire incidence; to save lives and properties. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); js">
Hon Okwudiri stated this while throwing more light on the recent motion he moved on the floor of the house, during an interaction with Informavores at the National Assembly Complex.
He reiterated that this is what prompted him to move a motion on the need to investigate the fire incident at the old Motor Spare parts Market, Obosi, Anambra State.
According to him, in the early hours of January 11th, 2020, fire engulfed the Old Motor Spare parts Market, Ugwuagba-Obosi, popularly known as Mgbuka Obosi Market in Anambra state. The fire outbreak razed down more than four hundred lockup shops and caused the death of one Mr Godwin Edozieuno.
“It is also interesting to note that Anambra state accommodates over seventy five (75) major markets where goods worth billions of naira are traded, yet there is no Federal Fire Service in the state.”, the honourable laments.
“In the same vein, a similar motion was moved on October 29,2019 in respect of the Upper Iweka/Ochanga Market fire Incident and the House resolved, inter alia, to call on the federal Government to establish a Federal Fire Service Station in Onitsha and its environs.
“As a result of the fire incident that took place on the 29 October, over 6 persons lost their lives while many others were injured, with several shops razed due to the absence of Federal Fire Service Station.”
“That was mainly why so many valuables and lives were lost. So far, the Federal Government has not done anything to compensate those who lost their lives and valuables as a result of the fire incident.”
“Hence the urgent need for the Federal Fire Service Station to be established in Onitsha or its environs.”
On the issue of state police, the member is of the opinion that some governors might explore the opportunity to use to intimidate their opponents and the only alternative we have is to change all the service chiefs.
“As far as am concerned, Anambra state is one of the most peaceful state in Nigeria and I want the other governors to take a borrow from what the Anambra state governor is doing to ensure that the people of the state enjoys a peaceful atmosphere. Nigerians security architecture, needs to be rejigged.” he concluded.
