Disappointment: Order Of The Day In Movie Industry – Sunday Amedu

Veteran filmmaker, entertainer and director Sunday Amodu has strived through thick and thin in the movie industry over the years and has loads of experience in the art, he made it known to the upcoming and wanabe artists that they would need a lot of preparation and determination as disappointment is the order of the day in the movie industry. js">

Mr. Amedu is an Igala descent who started working towards his dream of film making at the age of 7 and set in finally by writing scripts.

After going through study and releasing his first movie in the year 2000, he was the first Igala producer to successfully take an Igala movie to the federal government of Nigeria.

According to the movie director in an interview with AljazirahNigeria newspapers, when his first movie, “Ejukimenebi” was taken to the Censors Board, they were surprised that they were Igala movies in the industry. Eventually his movie became the first Igala movie to be known in the world.

Aside from this particular movie, he also has other good movies to his credit and also working on another great movie presently.

Amodu has worked on a couple of blockbuster movies in the past, like “Danger Of Curiosity” and “Gods Power” another movie that featured top actors including the late Bruno Iwuoha. He successfully produced these movies amongst other mind blowing pieces.

Before now, Igala movies have witnessed little or no recognition in the entertainment industry despite its enormous talent and creativity.

Meanwhile Amodu made emphasis on the fact that the movie industry has been affected not even by the pandemic but for about 5 to 6 years now, and that this effect took off when everything was digitized and the decoders came in to play, “I think the COVID-19 era is the best time for movies to sell because people are mostly indoors and watching movies but unfortunately, people here do not pay attention to the movies.

“However, with my strategy that I am bringing on board, that is my dream of becoming somebody who will champion the Igala world as regards having an Igala movie channel which I launched ten years ago and am still working on, I believe we should have one movie viewing centre where people can log onto”.
He further gave a word of advice to young up and coming artistes and people who intend to venture into the filmmaking business on the right way to go about it and some of the challenges they may face in the process, and their way to success.

“For upcoming artistes, I think they have a long way to go, either as an actor, a writer or a crew member.

They should possess perseverance because disappointment is the order of the day in the movie sector.”He further gave a word of advice to the up and coming actors and people who intend to venture into it that it has to do with his/her thinking.” I advise they should package themselves also.”

Kogi Govt Reiterates Dedication To Promotion of Entertainment Industry

The Kogi State Government has restated its determination to promote the entertainment industry for the stability and advancement of the people of the state.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo made the statement in a message when the Igala Performing Gospel Musicians Association (IPGMA) visited him today Wednesday October 30th, 2024 in his office in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo represented by the Deputy Comrade Joel Salifu said music is lively, creative and philosophical noting that God loves praises.

He called on the artists to remain inspirational in their music production for the edification of people’s souls, and to influence the power of God on the state.

He expressed that he is prepared to serve the people selflessly, and call for prayers and more support of the group for the progress of the state.

He appealed to the people of the three district of the state to see themselves as one people, noting that his burden is to improve the living conditions of the general populace.

Governor Ododo revealed that the state government resolved to pay hundred percent salaries to all category of workers in the state as well as the implementation of 72,500 Naira minimum wage in other to improve their welfare and contribute maximally to the development of the State.

He commended the Patron of the group, Reverend Elijah Abalaka for his ingenuity in Christian music production noting that his efforts through music has transform and revived souls across the world, describing him as a mentor to many Igala rising musicians in the country.

On the appeal of the group, the Governor promised to look into their request, enjoining them to remain united, supportive and prayerful to reap more gains of the current administration.

Earlier in his remark, the President of the Association, Evangelist Joseph Jacob congratulated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu on their election and victory at the supreme court, describing the Governor as a dedicated servant Leader.

According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu are men of high pedigree, stressing that their ascension to the throne is a divine call to serve the people.

Also speaking, Reverend Elijah Abalaka noted that the journey of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu to greatness had just begun and appealed to the government to assist the association in providing state-of-the-art instrument for the propagation of the Gospel.

High point of the visit is the presentation of songs led by the Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, while Reverend Elijah Abalaka offered prayers for the success of the present administration.

Nollywood Produces 541 Movies in 2022 First Quarter – NFVCB

Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director/CEO, National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB), says the board received and censored a total number of 541 movies produced by the Nigerian film industry in the first quarter of the year 2022. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); js">

He made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

According to him, the figure was made available by the Department of Film Censorship and Classification of the board in its First Quarter Report for the year, which captured all films submitted to the board from across the country.

The report is for onward submission to the relevant Federal Government authority for the compilation of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (GDP) Q1, 2022.

The first quarter report indicates a sharp increase in the number of movies produced from 382 in the last quarter of 2021 to 541, representing 42 percent increase.

“We are happy that the industry is beginning the year on a good note as indicated in the increase in the numbers of films that the board received for censorship and approval in the first quarter.

“There is no doubt that our film industry is a key contributor to national economy as the films being produced is a clearly reflection of the direct and indirect jobs the sector is creating.

“NFVCB as Federal Government agency is committed to providing enabling environment for filmmakers, we therefore urge them cooperate with us my ensuring that they submit their films for classification”, he said

According to the statement, Lagos State has the highest number of movies produced for the period with 179, while Abuja followed with 164 movies and Onitsha is behind with 121 movies.

The analysis by censorship location further shows that Kano has 42, while Port Harcourt is 26, as Jos and Benin recorded six and three movies respectively for the period under review.

NFVCB is a Federal Government body that regulates the films and video industry in Nigeria. The Board is empowered by law to classify all films and videos whether imported or produced locally.

It is also the duty of the Board to register all films and videos outlet across the country and to keep a register of such registered outlets among other functions.
