Autopsy Result Confirmed Earlier Reports of Brutal Murder of Journalist By Police
The autopsy result of the death of Ogbu Alexander Ameh has confirmed earlier report that he was shot dead by police during the protest by the Shiites Group.
According to the medical certificate of the cause of death issued by the National Hospital Abuja, Alex Ogbu died as a result of Brain evisceration, Penetrating exile injury (Gun Shot). com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js">
Recall that Sahara Reporters and Vanguard online were among the first media outlets to break the news of the death of a passer-by as a result of sporadic spraying of bullet by the police to disperse protesters.
Sahara Reporters had specifically reported that, “A middle-aged man has been shot dead by the police in Abuja during a protest by members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as ‘Shiites’.
“The incident occurred at the Berger roundabout on Tuesday 21st January, 2020 when armed policemen opened fire on the protesters.
“It was gathered that the victim was hit by bullet on the head and died on the spot.
However, the police authority denied the fact that Comrade Alex was shot dead in the head by the police. They said it was an accident.
According to Comrade Peter Adejobi, the organising Secretary of the Socialist Workers and Youth League SWL, that was part of a visit to the police station. He said, “We just came out of DCO crime of Utako Police station who briefed the wife and the family members, comrades from SWL that he said he personally led the team that took the body of com. Alex to mortuary.
“He gave account of what led to his death as Alex fell down while running from the Shite protesters and hit his head on a sharp object that led to Alex death .
The police accepted that there should be autopsy and they also agreed that the family should come with their pathology.
“It was agreed that the autopsy should be carried out tomorrow finally the wife and the younger brother were made to write statement.” he concluded.
What is still baffling and worrisome in this matter is the fact that a police chief that personally took the deceased’s body to the morgue could not immediately recognized a bullet wound on the scene of incident and has to rely on autopsy.
Ogbu Alex was shot in the fore-head and the bullet exited his back-head.
However, with the new revelation by the autopsy result, this means that the Police Authority has few more statements to make to Nigerians on this matter.
While we awaits the official outcome of the police investigation, Nigerians are hopeful that the officer that perpetrated this heinous crime of killing an innocent and vibrant citizen of Nigeria, thereby throwing his wife, children and other dependents into unknown fate would be brought to justice.
